Estatesearch Smashes Charity Challenge Walk Target

By Estatesearch on September 10th, 2024

Estatesearch has smashed its £1,500 target and raised £2,882 for the Alzheimer’s Society, through a charity challenge walk of five million steps within six weeks: the distance between Estatesearch’s Newmarket, Burgess Hill and Toronto offices.

However, raising money for a good cause was just one of the benefits of the challenge.  Craig Earney, Customer Relationship Manager, Estatesearch explains: “The Alzheimer’s Society is a charity that is close to my heart and so this gave me the motivation I needed to try and raise some funds in memory of my mother-in-law.  The challenge, the routine and pressure to keep going has been the best thing for my mental own health too. I lost weight and am eating much heathier and I feel like a different person.  Everyone has noticed the change!

“I know the main aim was to raise money for charity but there are other benefits including a happier, healthier work force.  This challenges means I’m now feeling positive about the future.”

Jonathan Upton, CEO, Estatesearch confirms: “As an organisation and one of the founders of the Vulnerable Banking Group, much of our work is about helping to protect vulnerable people.  Our entire team completed Dementia Friends Training, which is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative, earlier this year and this inspired us to choose this important charity for our challenge.  We are proud to have raised this money for the Alzheimer’s Society and it’s been wonderful to hear such great feedback from our own team and know this challenge has helped them get fitter and improve their own wellbeing in the process too.”

During the Challenge Estatesearch used the ‘Big Challenge App’ to record steps.  As part of the fun, Estatesearch split into two teams of 20 people: the Scrambled Legs and Chafing the Dream and kept followers informed of their progress with photos and updates on social media.  Between them, the two teams raised £1,405 and the Directors of Estatesearch matched this sum, bringing the total 192% over target to £2,882. According to https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/, one in three people born in the UK today will be diagnosed with dementia in their lifetime and 1.4 million people are expected to be living with dementia by 2040.

The Alzheimer’s Society funds research, provides support and campaigns for change with one unifying purpose: to stop dementia devastating lives.
